Have you seen the latest Discover MK exhibition at Milton Keynes Library? The exhibition, one of a series, features many aspects of the villages and towns that existed in the area before Milton Keynes developed.  Interesting stories and photographs make up the panels on display.

The old Bletchley Urban District Council Chairman’s chain of office is on display for (probably) the first time since the Council was disbanded in 1974.

Bletchley Council's Jewel

Donated by a group of local businessmen, this lovely relic in gold and coloured enamel was presented to the UDC to commemorate its diamond anniversary in 1955.   The silver gilt chain is engraved with the names of all the council chairmen from 1895 through to the early 1970s.

The ‘jewel’, designed by heraldic designer Mr Ellis Tomlinson MA,  includes various references to events in Bletchley’s past and its links with local industry and the County Council.
