In the 1960/1970s I used to get ‘great enjoyment’ being a back-stage volunteer at the Bletchley Amateur Operatic Society. Never being one for the bright lights I much preferred being behind the scenes, this involved making the scenery throughout the year under the direction of Ken Branchette our talented back-stage manager, culminating in the show in May at the Wilton Hall, Bletchley. I did have one moment of glory when I was coerced into being a ‘flunky’ in the Merrie Widow but I won’t comment any further on that!

For those of you who used to enjoy the yearly performance, I’ve found these two photographs of My Fair Lady which might bring back a few memories.

Bletchley photos!

How many of you have played in those ‘school versus the staff’ events? This picture was taken we think possibly in 1977 at the Knowles School. Hopefully, somebody out there can remember the event, it would be interesting to know the score!

Have to say the young ladies from the ‘school team’ seem slightly happier than the staff team.

Bletchley photos!

Bletchley Road used to have two garages, Tompkins and Moss & Cowley and Wilson; this picture of Cowley and Wilson was taken in 1972. Unfortunately, it’s not a particularly good photograph but sufficient to remind many of you what it looked like and its location.

A well-known landmark in Bletchley Road!

Does anybody remember what was either side of the garage?

Bletchley photos!

The burger van certainly seems to be doing some good business in Queensway, the year was 2002! Also, it looks as if it could be mid-summer with all the leaves on the trees and people sitting in their short-sleeved shirts. The shop on the left-hand side is ‘Weigh and Save’, does anybody remember who occupied these premises for many years?

Sitting watching the world go by!
